My question is whether anyone says anything to your friend and his friends when they use "gay" in this fashion. I imagine there are lots of equally offensive things to say in return, but perhaps one should suppress this desire ... You might ask them if they would be offended if you started using the n-word to refer to their behavior.
HUm...that is an interesting suggestion. Perhaps I will try that one. No one really says anything to him, because within this cohort, they all use the word the same way. Infact, I noticed last night, that they don;t really use the word unless one particular individual is around. I would say that he is the source or the word for this group. In other words, he brought the word and usage to his group of friends.
